Dendropark – Lori Fortress – Hovhannavank – St. Nicholas Cathedral

This daily tour offers to reveal some of the historical treasures and tourist attractions of two regions of Armenia at a time. The first one is Hovhannavank Monastery near Ohanavan village in Aragatsotn Province. Hovhannavank’s historical and architectural significance makes it a popular tourist attraction for visitors to Armenia. Guided tours offer insights into the monastery’s history, architecture, and religious significance, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Armenia’s rich cultural heritage. For visitors seeking moments of tranquility and contemplation, Hovhannavank offers a peaceful retreat amidst the beauty of the Aragatsotn countryside.

We will continue to Lori Province and wonderful Dendropark. It is the biggest botanical garden in Armenia. The arboretum is one of the best places to explore the nature of the country in all its charm, beauty and diversity. Each season is so unique and beautiful in this natural reserve. Even autumn and winter visits will leave unforgettable impressions and memories. Stepanavan Dendropark is undoubtedly a perfect place if you want to have a rest or just walk in nature.

The next marvel to be visited is Lori Fortress. Not too far from Stepanavan city, on the left bank of Dzoraget river, one of the impregnable fortresses of medieval Armenia – the fortress of Lori is situated. In the 10-12 centuries it was the center of Lori princedom. After many attacks and sieges the city was gradually abandoned. Already by the end of 18th century only a little settlement was left on the site of once mighty fortress. This place can be found on many tour itineraries and remains an exceptional attraction in Northern Armenia.

The tour ends with an interesting visit to St. Nicholas Cathedral. The Church in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is an inactive former Orthodox church located near Stepanavan – in Amrakits village. Its construction dates back to the 19th century. The cathedral’s wooden doors have been shut since the 1988 Spitak Earthquake, which severely damaged the structure. Registered as a historical-cultural monument, it nevertheless remains an exceptional tourist attraction.
