Discover a different side of Gyumri – a city where historic streets, Armenian craftsmanship and contemporary creativity come together.
This specially curated Sara Voyage experience takes you beyond traditional sightseeing. Throughout the day, you will meet local creators, explore Armenian artistic traditions and participate in hands-on workshops where you don’t simply observe – you create.
From Armenian calligraphy and bird letters to ceramics and the remarkable artistic legacy of the Aslamazyan sisters, every stop reveals another layer of Gyumri’s creative identity.
Itinerary
09:30 - Departure from Yerevan
We leave Yerevan in the morning and travel towards Gyumri, Armenia’s cultural and artistic capital.
Our journey is designed around discovery, creativity and authentic local experiences.
12:00 - STOP 1: GOHAR PETROSYAN ART STUDIO
Create Your Own Armenian Ceramic Souvenir
Just outside Gyumri, in Hatsik village, we visit artist and ceramicist Gohar Petrosyan’s studio, where art, clay and Armenian traditions come together.
This is a warm, hands-on creative experience where every participant becomes an artist for a moment.
Guests choose a prepared clay figure or decorative piece and bring it to life through painting and creative decoration. Depending on the workshop, this may include charming clay angels and other Armenian-inspired forms.
During the master class, you will:
- Paint and decorate your own clay piece
- Create a unique ceramic angel or decorative souvenir
- Discover Armenian motifs and traditional aesthetics
- Experience Gohar’s personal artistic techniques
- Take your handmade creation home as a memorable souvenir
No previous artistic experience is required — just imagination and a willingness to create.
This is a particularly nice experience for children, school groups, families and creative travelers, as Gohar also conducts painting and pottery master classes for children and visitors.
14.30 - STOP 2: ASLAMAZYAN SISTERS GALLERY
Meet the Women Who Shaped Armenian Art
Our final cultural experience takes us to The Gallery of Mariam and Eranuhi Aslamazyan Sisters.
Founded in 1987, the gallery houses around 620 original works by Mariam and Yeranuhi Aslamazyan, including painting, graphic art and ceramics. The collection offers a unique opportunity to explore the sisters’ artistic legacy and their contribution to Armenian art. (Aslamazyan Sisters Museum)
Inside the historic building, we discover:
- paintings and graphic works;
- ceramic creations;
- the sisters’ artistic journeys;
- Armenian cultural motifs and influences;
- the connection between fine art and everyday objects.
The gallery itself is part of the experience: its historic architecture and courtyard offer an authentic glimpse into old Gyumri. (My Armenia)
OPTIONAL CREATIVE EXTENSION
For groups interested in an additional artistic activity, a ceramic workshop inspired by the Aslamazyan sisters’ techniques can be arranged, including painting a miniature ceramic plate or decorating a ceramic ornament. Participants can take their creations home.
15:30 - 16:00: Dinner IN GYUMRI
A relaxed lunch break at a local restaurant, with an opportunity to taste Armenian cuisine and enjoy the warm hospitality for which Gyumri is known.
16:30 - STOP 3: ZANAN CULTURAL HOUSE
Armenian Bird Letters – A Living Calligraphy Tradition
Our first experience takes place at Zanan Cultural House in Gyumri.
Here, participants are introduced to the fascinating tradition of Armenian bird letters – an artistic interpretation of the Armenian alphabet in which letters become intertwined with birds, ornamental forms and decorative motifs.
CREATE YOUR OWN ARTWORK
During the workshop, participants will:
- discover the history and aesthetics of Armenian bird letters;
- learn the basic principles of this decorative tradition;
- create their own artistic composition;
- work with traditional Armenian-inspired motifs;
- take their handmade creation home.

18:00 - GYUMRI: A MOMENT TO EXPERIENCE THE CITY
After this workshop, we take time to experience the atmosphere of historic Gyumri.
A relaxed walk through the city’s distinctive streets allows us to discover its architecture, artistic details and unmistakable creative spirit.
FREE TIME IN GYUMRI
Before returning to Yerevan, enjoy some free time to:
- explore the historic center;
- visit local artisan shops;
- discover handmade Armenian products;
- take photographs;
- enjoy a final coffee in Gyumri.
18:30 - 19:00: Departure from Gyumri
We leave Gyumri with more than photographs.
You return with new skills, personal creations and a deeper connection to Armenian art and culture.
